Loyola Plays Host to Westmont Tonight
Loyola Marymount University’s basketball team, coming off a tough loss at St. John’s, should find the going easier when the Lions open at home at 7:30 tonight against Westmont College of Santa Barbara, a member of the National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics.
The Lions are 1-1 after opening in the Lapchick Tournament at St. John’s, where they easily defeated Tennessee Tech but lost to the Redmen, 88-85. Westmont (2-1) has defeated The Master’s and Sonoma State, and lost to Biola.
The high-scoring Lions, who have posted 202 points in two games, have three players averaging at least 20 points: forward Hank Gathers, 23; guard Corey Gaines, 22.5, and forward Mike Yoest, 20.
Westmont is led by junior forward Mike Kelly, averaging 15.7 points.
