3 Area Schools Reach Semifinals of Southern Section Playoffs

Wilson, Montebello and Whittier Christian have reached the semifinals of the Southern Section football playoffs.
Big Five Conference
Wilson, which shocked previously unbeaten Loyola 23 to 7 last week will play Fountain Valley Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Veterans Stadium in Long Beach.
Coach Al Taylor’s Bruins intercepted four Loyola passes in the second half and were led by Monteo Demery, who gained 125 yards.
Fountain Valley advanced by beating Bishop Amat, 42 to 14.
Eastern Conference
Top-seeded Montebello will play at home Friday night at 7:30 against Northview.
Coach Doug Rihn’s Oilers, led by running backs Johnny Macias and Adam Avina, defeated Charter Oak, 26 to 14 last week.
Northview beat Ramona, 28-22.
Inland Conference
Whittier Christian, coached by Phil Bravo, will play top-seeded Carpenteria Friday night at 8 at Carpenteria Middle School.
The Heralds beat Bishop 14 to 7 last week as junior quarterback Rich Earlywine threw for one touchdown and ran for another.
Carpenteria beat Boron 34 to 0.
