Wreck Put on Display After Rise in Deaths

ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A sudden increase in deaths on local roads prompted officials to display the mangled remains of a sports car in which a 21-year-old man died earlier this year.
The wreck, in which the driver’s death was blamed on alcohol, speeding and failure to wear a seat belt, sits on the lawn of the municipal building.
Eight people have died on township roads this year, compared to a total of seven from 1982 to 1986. Police Chief Steven Dachisen said an increase in traffic is partly to blame for the rise in deaths.
