Living in Motels and Garages
I, too, live in a neighborhood where there are many people living in garages and campers in backyards. In some garages there as many as 15 to 20 people. The owners are making a fortune. I often wonder if they are paying taxes to the IRS.
So I am thinking of being a garage landlord. I have a three-car garage and a big yard--big enough for three or four campers. I will still work at my regular job ($12,000 a year) with taxes deducted from my paycheck. With my tax-free garage-rent earnings, my wife and I can have all the things to enjoy that we can’t have on $12,000 a year.
