Westwood : Committee to Vote on Appeal
The Planning and Environment Committee of the Los Angeles City Council is scheduled to vote Tuesday on an appeal of the city Planning Commission’s decision to remove the Monty’s restaurant sign atop a Westwood office tower.
The owner of the 21st-story steak house and bar earlier this year asked the commission to exempt the restaurant from design guidelines in a new plan for Westwood Village. Among other things, the plan would ban rooftop signs such as the yellow Monty’s sign that has been on the building since the restaurant opened 18 years ago.
The commission voted 3 to 1 not to exempt the restaurant, saying owner Dennis G. Levine should take down the old sign and put up a smaller one 22 feet above street level.
