N.M. Rep. Lujan to Call It Quits

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Rep. Manuel Lujan Jr., the only Latino Republican House member, announced today he will not run for a 10th term. “Twenty years is a good, round number,” he said.

Lujan, 59, was the first Republican elected to the House from New Mexico in 46 years when he upset five-term incumbent Rep. Tom Morris in 1968. He suffered a heart attack in early 1986, but said his health was not an issue in his decision.
