Girls’ Basketball : Fountain Valley Gets Close, but Not Enough

Junior guard Stacey Hisaka of Fountain Valley High School hit a three-point shot against Compton, to tie the score, 53-53, with 1:09 to play Saturday.

But that was the best the Barons could do as they lost to Compton, 57-54, in a nonleague game at Fountain Valley.

Fountain Valley (9-7) trailed 17-10 after the first quarter, but closed to within one point, 29-28, at halftime.

Hisaka led the Barons with 17 points, and forward Melayne Green added 12 points and forward Renae Lambrigger had 11 points.

Julie Workman led Fountain Valley in rebounding with nine. Forward Sharon Hargrove scored 32 points to lead Compton (4-7).

In another nonleague game:

Mission Viejo 72, Costa Mesa 39--Senior forward Tricia Stringam led the Diablos with 22 points in the game at Mission Viejo.

Sophomore center Jennifer Rohrig added 16 points and guard Tina Ranker had 10 points for Mission Viejo (11-4), which led, 39-21, at halftime. Vanessa Henderson led Costa Mesa with 14 points, including two three-point shots. The Mustangs team hit four three-pointers.

In an Olympic League game:

Orange Lutheran 33, Capistrano Valley Christian 27--Sophomore Pam Marty scored a season-high 18 points to lead the Lancers (6-4, 2-1), who led throughout the game at Orange Lutheran. Capistrano Valley Christian is 2-5, 0-3.
