Texas has slipped behind Alaska for the first time ever as the nation’s top oil-producing state, according to the Texas Railroad Commission, which regulates oil in the state. A railroad commission spokesman cited preliminary production figures issued by the American Petroleum Institute that show Alaska’s November oil output topping 2 million barrels per day, while Texas produced about 1.96 million barrels per day that month. “Avis might take pride in being No. 2, but it’s a bitter pill for Texas oilmen to swallow,” Railroad Commission Chairman Jim Nugent said.
