Rudolf Nierlich led an Austrian sweep of a World Cup giant slalom at Schladming, Austria, with his first career victory.
Nierlich, with a combined time of 2 minutes 45.54 seconds, defeated teammates Hubert Strolz (2:45.63) and Helmut Mayer (2:46.03). Guenther Mader, also of Austria, was fourth.
Hans Pieren of Switzerland was fifth in 2:46.94, just ahead of West German Markus Wasmeier, who was timed in 2:47.11.
