Economists Predict Slow Growth in 1988

CHICAGO — Midwestern business economists polled by the Chicago Federal Reserve on Tuesday predicted that the U.S. economy will continue to grow in 1988, although at a slower pace than last year.
Fueled by strong sectors including industrial production, capital spending and exports, U.S. gross national product was predicted to grow at a 2.3% in 1988, compared to 2.7% in 1987, based on the median forecasts of 26 economists polled by the Federal Reserve.
