East German authorities have arrested more than 200 people, mainly dissenters or citizens seeking to emigrate, in raids in several cities, West German television reported. The ARD television station in West Berlin, quoting church sources, said security men made the arrests in East Berlin, Leipzig, Wismar, Eichsfeld and Treptow. The arrests appeared to be part of a clampdown following an upsurge in dissident meetings and protests.
