The Colleges : Community College Roundup : OCC Women’s Swimming Team Wins 58th Straight Dual Meet
Orange Coast College’s women’s swimming team won its 58th consecutive dual meet victory Wednesday as it defeated Santa Monica, 145-103, in a nonconference meet at Orange Coast.
The streak, which dates back to Febuary of 1982, is the longest winning streak of any sport in the state. The Pirates (3-0) are the four-time defending state champions.
Tina Constable won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.76 seconds, the 100 freestyle (54.42) and the 50 butterfly (27.03) to lead the Pirates.
In nonconference men’s swimming:
Santa Monica 98, Orange Coast 84--Rodney Mellott won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:23.21); Dave Stone won the 50 freestyle (22.62), and the Pirates won the medley relay in 3:40.21 to lead Orange Coast (2-1) at home. Santa Monica is the defending state champion.
In nonconference baseball:
Fullerton 12, Los Angeles Valley 6--Deryk Hudson had three hits and four RBIs, Rod Klopfer had three hits, including a home run and a double, and Scott Einhorn had a triple and a double for host Fullerton (13-2-1). Jeff Petredes (3-0) picked up the victory.
In South Coast Conference women’s softball:
Golden West 3, Mt. San Antonio 0--Kathy Ellis (1-3) gave up one hit over five innings for host Golden West (6-7, 2-1). Jennifer Pattinson pitched the final two innings for the save. Golden West scored its runs in the fourth with the help of four wild pitches, a passed ball and an error. Mt. San Antonio is 4-7, 1-2.
Fullerton 5, Pasadena 2--Renee Culp had two hits and two RBIs and Julie Poulos had two hits, a run and an RBI for visiting Fullerton (21-4, 3-0). Kristin Jacobs pitched the final four innings.
In an Orange Empire Conference softball game:
Saddleback 5, Rancho Santiago 0--Patty Taylor (15-2) pitched a one-hitter and struck out nine to lead Saddleback at home. Tiffany Caressi had two hits and three RBIs for Saddleback(16-3, 3-0).
In nonconference golf:
Saddleback 378, Mt. San Antonio 391, Golden West 393--John Wardrup shot a 1-under-par 71 to lead Saddleback (12-3) at the San Clemente municipal golf course.
In South Coast Conference volleyball:
Long Beach City 3, Orange Coast 1--Long Beach defeated the Pirates, 15-11, 15-13, 5-15, 15-10, at home.
