SEOUL, South Korea — Protesting South Korean students set fire to a train with about 100 people on board in the southern city of Chinju on Monday, witnesses said.
There were no immediate reports of injuries to passengers, but the train’s locomotive and four cars were set afire by firebombs and dozens of windows were smashed.
Witnesses said that about 1,500 protesters, demanding the release of students arrested earlier, pelted police with rocks and gasoline bombs outside a university before switching their attention to the train.
Witnesses said seven policemen were hurt.
