The ongoing writers strike apparently has a casualty: Producer David L. Wolper tells us that “it would be a miracle” now if the TV movie “Roots Christmas” gets made. It was due to start shooting in Nashville April 25.

“It’s costing us too much to make, and we can’t cut the script down because of the writers strike,” said Wolper, coming out of several days of meetings aimed at saving the deal.

LeVar Burton and Louis Gossett were to reprise their roles as Kunta Kinte and Fiddler, respectively, from the epic “Roots.” Based on a story (again) by Alex Haley, the script had Kunta and Fiddler helping runaway slaves to freedom in New Orleans on Christmas Eve, 1775.
