Three men were rescued and their boat kept afloat Wednesday after they were reported sinking about 9 miles off the county coast while returning to Seal Beach from a fishing trip off Santa Catalina Island.
The 19-foot powerboat Conga One, owned by Gary D. Clopp of Seal Beach, began rapidly taking on water through a long crack in its fiberglass hull, Coast Guard officials said.
Clopp radioed for help at 4:31 p.m. A Coast Guard helicopter reached the craft about 30 minutes later and dropped a pump to keep it afloat.
Los Angeles County lifeguard and Coast Guard boats reached the vessel, helped to partially stop the leak and towed the boat to Alamitos Bay.
