Androgynous Food
Coleman Andrews’ article on “Boy Food” and the accompanying Hall of Fame were great fun, but they have pushed me into the throes of a gender confusion (“It’s Big, It’s Bold, It’s . . . Boy Food!” June 5).
I discovered a wonderful spot that you would call a “Boy Food” restaurant named the Tavern in Santa Monica and have become a regular in the past few months.
Since reading your article I don’t know whether to wear sunglasses and overalls the next time I order chicken pot pie or to brazenly order my Boy Food with skirts a-flying.
You’ve done all of us women who prefer simple foods a disservice with your Boy Food label.
Let’s call it what it really is--”Real Food”--so I can continue being the image of femininity I like to think I am, and still get a good meal without hiding.
