Local News in Brief : More Woes for Strip Club

Chippendales is in trouble again.
This time, the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control wants the Westside male strip club’s liquor license. ABC officials said Thursday that their appeals board recently upheld a contested ruling that cited the club in violation of the business and professions code barring sexual discrimination.
“We sent male and female investigators to the place and they allowed females to enter and refused entrance to males,” said Warren Tankersley, the department’s Inglewood district administrator.
Club owner Steve Banerjee denied the charges and said his establishment has been unfairly targeted by the ABC, Fire and Police departments. He said his lawyers will fight the revocation--due to take effect July 28--in the district court of appeals.
Banerjee said that if he were to lose his liquor license, the show could still go on at one of several clubs and theaters wooing the dancers to their stage. The liquor responsibility, however, would be in the hands of the show’s host. Banerjee would be able to reapply for a liquor license after a year.
