Down Again Rallies for Hollypark Victory

Favored Down Again, trailing by 13 lengths at the halfway point, overtook pacesetter Gayane in the stretch Thursday and won the $55,000 Hollywood Park feature by 1 3/4 lengths.
Ridden by Chris McCarron, the 4-year-old, Kentucky-bred filly covered the 1 1/16 miles on the turf in 1:40 3/5 for her fourth victory in 10 starts this year and her first at that distance.
Down Again paid $5, $2.60 and $2.40 to her backers in the crowd of 13,695. She won $30,250, boosting her career earnings to $239,091.
Second-choice Gayane, winless in five U.S. starts since early April, was ridden by Bill Shoemaker, paying $3.20 and $3. Any Song, with Gary Stevens up, was another 1 lengths back and paid $3.20.
