In Baseball, Winning Really Isn’t Only Thing
- Share via
“The only thing that matters to me,” said the Dodger modestly, “is that our team should win.”
Nearly every player talks like that for press consumption.
This is presumably how he talks to his wife after a win or a loss:
“I struck out four times yesterday, honey, and misjudged a fly ball, but our team won, 6-5. What a happy day!”
“This afternoon I hit three home runs with five runs batted in, but our team lost, 6-5. It made me feel sick.”
I don’t mind being fed baloney, but we should recognize it for what it is.
