Chapman Roundup : Baseball Program Signs 2 Players and 2 Coaches

Two players and two coaches have joined the Chapman College baseball program, Coach Mike Weathers announced Wednesday.

Junior outfielder Jason Rolish, who played at Servite High School and at Cal State Fullerton, and right-handed pitcher Jeff Petredes, from El Dorado High School and Fullerton College, both signed to attend Chapman.

Rolish hit .267 with 2 home runs and 20 runs batted in and had 11 stolen bases for the Titans last year. Petredes was 4-1 with a 4.78 earned-run average for Fullerton.

Pitching coach Jim Benedict, who was at Loyola Marymount last year, and Matt Stien, who has been at Fullerton College the past five seasons, joined the coaching staff.

The men’s soccer team begins its season today in the Far West tournament against host team Cal State Chico at 6 p.m. Southern California College plays Seattle Pacific in the other game today. The tournament continues Friday and Saturday.

The women’s volleyball team opens its season at the Fresno Pacific tournament on Friday. The Panthers (14-19, 20th in Division II in 1987) play Lewis & Clark Friday at 8:30 a.m. Other teams in Chapman’s pool are Cal State Chico, Seattle Pacific and UC San Diego. The other pool consists of Fresno Pacific, Northern Montana, Gordon College, Texas Wesleyan and Western Washington.
