Local News in Brief : Costa Mesa : Drunk Driving Charged After 3 Hurt in Crash

Three people were hurt when a driver crossed over a left-turn lane into opposing traffic and crashed head on with a car, police said Monday.

Ramiro Hernandez Guevara, 25, of Costa Mesa was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving, Lt. Gary Webster said.

Guevara was southbound on Placentia Avenue about 5 p.m. Sunday when he crossed over a double left-turn lane and entered the northbound lanes, Webster said. Guevara struck a car driven by Vicki Jo Brown, 18, of Fountain Valley, south of 20th Street, Webster said.

Brown was taken to Western Medical Center, Santa Ana, where she was in stable condition. Her passenger, Steve Mallon, 23, of Costa Mesa, was transported to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital & Medical Center, where he was in stable condition.

Guevara’s wife, Maria, 22, was taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, which would not release information on her condition. Webster said two other passengers in Guevara’s car were unhurt.
