Australia Honors 6 Japanese Killed in WWII

SYDNEY, Australia — Ignoring protests from veterans’ groups, Australia’s navy Saturday honored six Japanese sailors who died when their midget submarines were sunk by depth charges in Sydney Harbor during World War II.
Two brass plaques to commemorate their bravery were unveiled at rites attended by about 70 relatives and members of the Japanese Midget Submarine Assn.
The Japanese entered the harbor in three midget submarines on the night of May 31, 1942, to attack Allied warships.
