Santiago Rallies to Edge Orange, 17-12

Santiago High School scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns within 1 minute 40 seconds to post a 17-12 victory over Orange Saturday night in front of 1,800 at Garden Grove High.
Trailing, 12-3, midway through the fourth quarter, Santiago put together a 12-play, 75-yard drive ending in a 35-yard touchdown pass from Dana Ripley to John Peralta with 6:31 to play. After the extra point, Santiago trailed, 12-10.
Orange appeared to have the drive stopped at midfield but a clipping penalty allowed Santiago to maintain possession.
Two plays after the kickoff, the Cavaliers’ Alex Ripley stepped in front of a Scott McMahon pass for an interception, returning it 24 yards for the go-ahead touchdown. Marco Perez’s extra point made the score 17-12.
Orange took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on a 15-yard run by Gabino Aguilar. The Panthers increased the lead to 12-0 with a 5-yard pass from McMahon to Mike Banville in the second quarter. Perez kicked a 26-yard field goal to make the score 12-3 at halftime.
Ripley completed 8 of 19 passes for 133 yards for Santiago.
Aaron McAffee led Orange with 71 yards in 11 carries.
