There’s more from the San Pedro celebrity department: Olympian Jackie Joyner-Kersee, who won two gold medals in track and field, will be honored Oct. 24 with a place on the San Pedro Sportswalk, a local version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame for sports figures from the Los Angeles area.
She was chosen along with Don Drysdale, a former pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers; Bob Petrich, a former San Pedro resident who played football for the San Diego Chargers, and former Boston Celtic Bill Sharman, who coached and is president of the Los Angeles Lakers.
A plaque with each athlete’s name and a symbol of his or her sport will be placed on the sidewalk near Traini’s.
The picks, by the way, were made prior to the Olympics.
