Local News in Brief : Alleged Abortion Foe Held in Arson
- Share via
A woman whom arson investigators described as an anti-abortionist was arrested Monday on suspicion of setting fire Sunday night to a Long Beach clinic.
The woman, Shannon Taylor of Long Beach, was also being held on suspicion of setting a fire at the Long Beach Women’s Family Planning clinic in June, according to Deputy Fire Marshall Rick DuRee.
The latest fire caused about $50,000 in damage to the single-story structure at 4056 Orange Ave. and forced the clinic to direct many of its clients to other agencies, a spokeswoman said.
The clinic averages about 50 clients weekly, about one-fourth of whom come for abortions, the spokeswoman said. Most of the women visit the clinic for pap smears and other gynecological services, she said.
