Downey : Trash Rate Hike Approved

The Downey City Council on Tuesday approved a 3.9% increase in residential trash collection rates. It will boost the monthly bill for residents of single-family homes from $6.82 to $7.08, according to a city report. Residents of apartments with fewer than six units will be charged $6.11 a month, up from $5.88. Larger apartment buildings are not affected by the council action.

The city’s residential trash hauler, Calsan Inc., requested the increase based on a contractual formula that takes into account the annual rise in the Consumer Price Index along with increased dumping, equipment, fuel and insurance expenses.
