President Reagan ordered 100% tariffs on some $39 million worth of selective imports from Brazil in retaliation for unfair trade practices in the latest escalation of a nagging trade dispute. The move fulfills a threat made in late July to punish Brazil for a refusal to provide patent protection to U.S. pharmaceuticals and chemicals.
