THE PREPS : Rancho Alamitos Wins; Fight Ends Game Early

Rancho Alamitos scored 28 points in the second half and defeated Garden Grove, 48-24, Thursday in a Garden Grove League game that ended early because brawl that cleared both benches at Bolsa Grande High School.
With 1 minute 23 seconds remaining, Rancho Alamitos had the ball and was attempting to run out the clock when the fight started and both benches cleared. Order was restored after about 10 minutes, but the game could not continue because the officials had left the field.
Rancho Alamitos was led by Rod McCall, who completed 8 of 11 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 2 more scores.
Junior running back Dana Riddle led the Vaqueros’ running attack with 139 yards in 26 carries. He had touchdown runs of 1 and 9 yards in the first half as Rancho Alamitos (2-5 overall, 1-3 in league play) built a 20-3 halftime lead.
Garden Grove (0-7, 0-4) came back early in the third quarter on a 23-yard pass from Frank Wursthorn to Joe Squyers. Wursthorn also scored in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run.
Rancho Alamitos’ David Singletary scored 2 touchdowns in the fourth quarter on runs of 8 and 6 yards. Chris Singletary caught a 59-yard touchdown pass from McCall.
