Local News in Brief : Truck Overturns on Hill, Crushes Driver
A Los Angeles man was killed Saturday night when his pickup truck drifted off the side of a mountain road west of Gorman, rolled down an embankment and crushed him, authorities said.
Two passengers suffered minor injuries.
Cecilio Lira, 49, of Los Angeles, was driving north on Camp Scheideck Road, a half-mile south of Lockwood Valley Road, about 10 p.m. when the truck drifted off the right side of the road, said California Highway Patrol Officer Andy Gutierrez.
Lira was thrown from the truck and was crushed when it rolled on him, Gutierrez said.
The two passengers, Thomas Peltier, 26, of Burbank and Victor Sanchez, 55, of Los Angeles, were taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, where they were treated and released.
Gutierrez said the cause of the accident had not been determined.
