Pakistan opposition leader Benazir Bhutto opened her campaign for the Nov. 16 National Assembly elections with a boisterous rally in Karachi’s slum district. About 20,000 people cheered, danced in the streets, tossed rose petals and chanted “Long live Benazir--the next prime minister!” in greeting the 35-year-old leader of the Pakistan People’s Party on a campaign swing through the nation’s largest city. Bhutto told the crowd that if her party wins, it will ensure “the rule of the people. . . .”
