Graham Passes for 518 Yards, but Long Beach Loses
HONOLULU — Despite Cal State Long Beach quarterback Jeff Graham completing 33 of 59 passes for 518 yards, the 49ers couldn’t pull out a victory over heavily favored Hawaii Saturday night.
Warren Jones scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak with 49 seconds left to give the Rainbows a 34-31 victory.
The Rainbows (6-2) began their winning 72-yard drive with 2:14 left. After a roughing-the-passer penalty that gave Hawaii the ball on the Long Beach 36-yard line, Jones passed 10 yards to Leonard Lau. Amani Davis then ran for 13 yards and caught a 12-yard pass from Jones to set up the 1-yard scoring run.
Long Beach (1-7) scored on pass plays of 72 and 86 yards from Graham to Derek Washington in the fourth quarter to take a surprising 27-24 lead.
Graham became Long Beach’s all-time passing leader and his 518 yards passing was the most ever against Hawaii.
