College Football : South Roundup : In Flash, Clemson Wins 3rd Straight ACC Title
Clemson won its third straight Atlantic Coast Conference championship and a berth in the Florida Citrus Bowl in a flash.
Terry Allen scored 2 touchdowns and Gary Cooper added the second of his 2 touchdowns in a 2-minute, 40-second span as the 16th-ranked Tigers overcame a 14-10 first-half deficit and beat Maryland, 49-25, Saturday at College Park, Md.
Allen finished with 110 yards in 19 carries, giving him 1,066 yards for the season and 2,039 for his career, making him the first sophomore in Clemson history to surpass the 2,000-yard mark.
Clemson’s scoring spree was a culmination of an unstoppable offense and a defensive spurt that forced a pair of turnovers.

Maryland is 5-5 and 4-2.

But quarterback Shane Montgomery, who tied a Wolfpack record with 3 touchdown passes, moved N.C. State from its 21 to the Duke 20. The game-tying drive was aided by 2 penalties and a 19-yard pass play.
Duke and North Carolina State are both 6-3-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the ACC.

Florida St. 41, Virginia Tech 14--Dexter Carter rushed for 119 yards and Sammie Smith scored 2 touchdowns as the 5th-ranked Seminoles won a Tallahassee, Fla.
