“War and Remembrance,” billed as the longest (at least 30 hours) and most expensive (at least $104 million) miniseries ever, begins unfolding its tale of World War II Sunday night on ABC.
The first 18 hours will be presented this week and next, with the remaining part scheduled to be shown in 1989.
Like 1983’s “The Winds of War,” “War and Remembrance” is based on a novel by Herman Wouk. Where the first was built around events leading up to World War II, the new story is about survival and winning the war.
Robert Mitchum returns as naval officer Victor (Pug) Henry. The large cast includes Jane Seymour (shown with Rhett Creighton), John Gielgud, Hart Bochner (all on the cover), Victoria Tennant, Polly Bergen, David Dukes, Peter Graves, Chaim Topol, Jeremy Kemp and Ralph Bellamy.
Sunday’s opening chapter runs 8-11 p.m., with the story continuing Tuesday at 8 p.m., Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. and Thursday at 9 p.m., then next week on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
