College Basketball : DeLaveaga Scores 26 but Miss at End Costs CLU
Senior guard Steve deLaveaga scored a game-high 26 points but missed a 3-point shot attempt as time ran out in Cal Lutheran’s 71-70 defeat Friday to Claremont-Mudd in the first round of the Triton Tip-Off Tournament at UC San Diego.
With Cal Lutheran (2-2) trailing by a point, deLaveaga was fouled in the final 7 seconds on an apparent 3-point shot. But the officials ruled that he was passing the ball when he was fouled.
Instead of getting the opportunity to tie or win the game at the free-throw line, Cal Lutheran was forced to inbound the ball. DeLaveaga received the inbound pass but missed with the final shot of the game.
