SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — A boat carrying 53 Dominicans trying to illegally enter Puerto Rico capsized, killing six and leaving five missing and presumed drowned, the U.S. Coast Guard said Sunday.
The Guard said the 25-foot wooden boat capsized Saturday halfway between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, while transferring passengers to a Dominican Coast Guard vessel. The U.S. cutter Monhegan helped the Dominican ship rescue 42 people.
