43 Ecclesia Children Placed in Homes

Foster homes have been found for all but eight of the Watts-based Ecclesia Athletic Assn. children taken into protective custody by the state of Oregon, officials say.
Alice Galloway of the Oregon Children’s Services Division said 43 children have been placed with foster parents in five Oregon counties. Two others were released to relatives.
Galloway said the remaining five boys and three girls, ages 4 through 11, will be housed at the Hillcrest School for girls in Salem. The boys had been housed in a cottage at MacLaren School for Boys in Woodburn.
Galloway said the state hopes to find homes for the remaining children in the first week of January.
The children were taken into custody Oct. 14 after the 8-year-old daughter of Ecclesia founder Eldridge Broussard Jr. was beaten to death at a farm owned by the group in Clackamas County. Four Ecclesia followers have been charged with manslaughter in the case and are scheduled to go on trial in February.
