“I’m sick of watching a bunch of sweaty guys !” exclaimed personal manager S. C. Dacy, referring to all those Sly and Arnold muscle-and-action pics. Now he can watch some sweaty gals-- including his client, action queen Sybil Danning, starring in the action-adventure “High Calibre,” which Dacy penned.
Sybil’s set as a supercop duking it out in futuristic NYC with a supercriminal, to be played by Hong Kong martial arts star Joyce Godenzi.
Ed Pressman exec-produces, with Hong Kong film maker Sammo Hung making his American directorial debut with a $10-million-plus budget. Shooting is scheduled for summer. (Hung has developed something of a cult following here with low-budgeters like “Eastern Condors”)
This is the first Hollywood outing for Godenzi, a half-Australian, half-Chinese, former Miss Hong Kong, who’s displayed her fighting skills in a half-dozen flicks.
Dacy promises a predominantly female cast: “In this film, we’ll erase the line between actors and stunt men.” A pivotal fight sequence (“East meets West”) will find Godenzi using martial arts skills, and Danning displaying an American wrestling fighting style.
“Kind of like a meeting of Bruce Lee and Hulk Hogan.”
