The San Diego State women’s basketball team, ranked 14th in the nation, returned from a 14-day layoff with an 81-58 nonconference victory over Murray State Monday night in Peterson Gym.
Chana Perry and Julie Evans led the Aztecs with 20 points apiece. Perry was 12 of 16 from the free-throw line and had 18 rebounds, Brooke Meadows had 13 points and Crystal Lee had 6 assists for SDSU (9-0).
Sheila Smith led Murray State (9-2) with 23 points.
With her team trailing U.S. International University, 74-73, and 40 seconds remaining, Wendy Sturgis scored to give Alaska Anchorage’s women’s basketball team a 75-74 victory at Golden Hall.

USIU (10-11) meets Southwest Texas State on Thursday at 5 p.m. in Golden Hall.
UC San Diego’s women’s basketball team avenged Friday’s 31-point loss to Millikin of Illinois with a 67-60 nonconference victory at Triton Gym.
Jill Koster’s 15 points led the Tritons, Beth Koenig added 13 and Tracy Ragatz had 11, including two from 3-point range.
The Tritons used full-court pressure defense to shut down Millikin’s outside shooting, which they weren’t able to do in last week’s consolation final loss (79-48) of the UCSD tournament. May Sanders led Millikin with 20 points.
Millikin (8-6) led, 32-28, at halftime, but UCSD (7-4) took the lead with 10 minutes to go in the second half.
