New York subway gunman Bernhard H. Goetz was “somber and apprehensive” on what could be his last night of freedom before facing up to seven years in prison at his resentencing for gun possession, his lawyer said. “He’s as ready as anyone who should not be going to jail can be,” said Mark Baker, one of Goetz’s attorneys. Goetz, 40, whose original six-month sentence for weapons possession was declared illegally short by an appeals court, was scheduled to be sentenced again today by state Supreme Court Justice Stephen Crane in Manhattan. The electronics engineer was the subject of international headlines in 1984 when he shot four black teen-agers who menacingly approached him on a New York City subway car.
