Gorbachev, Safety From Soviets Linked in Poll

LONDON — Only 4% of Britons regard the Soviet Union as a serious threat to national security provided Mikhail S. Gorbachev stays in power, according to an opinion poll published in the Guardian newspaper on Friday.
However, if Gorbachev were to lose power, as many as 54% would perceive a threat from the Soviet Union, the poll found.
