Baxter International Inc.’s 1988 net income increased 17% from last year to $388 million. Sales totaled $6.9 billion, up 10%. The Deerfield, Ill., manufacturer and marketer of health-care products, systems and services attributed the results to a strong earnings gain in the fourth quarter, led by international sales, and continued strength in U.S. hospital and alternate-site businesses.
