Local News in Brief : Restaurant Owner Slain, Wife Wounded
A restaurateur was killed and his wife seriously injured in a shooting early Friday morning at the couple’s Torrance home, police said.
Investigators said they have no suspect and few clues in the shooting of William and Rosemary Deardorff, owners of Vince’s Spaghetti Restaurant on Hawthorne Boulevard in Torrance.
The couple had returned Thursday from a vacation in Acapulco and were apparently asleep in their Elm Avenue home when an intruder entered their bedroom and shot them several times, Torrance Police Sgt. Ron Traber said.
Rosemary Deardorff, 44, was able to call paramedics at 2:43 a.m. despite several gunshot wounds, Traber said. Her husband, 49, died at Torrance Memorial Hospital Medical Center a short time later. His wife was in fair condition and was scheduled to undergo surgery Friday afternoon at county Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
Robbery apparently was not a motive in the attack, police said, noting that money and other valuables were found inside the home.
