Gas Tax
I was disappointed to read in your article that state business and government leaders oppose an additional federal tax on gasoline. The price of gasoline in this country is too cheap compared to other countries in the world.
Why not raise the gas tax 30 cents per gallon, with half going to the federal government to help reduce the deficit, and half going to the state for roads and transportation improvements?
An additional tax on gasoline will encourage conservation of a largely imported natural resource, and encourage the manufacture and sale of fuel-efficient cars, besides providing badly needed revenue at the state and federal levels.
