Capistrano Valley Girls Face El Dorado

Capistrano Valley High School leads a host of Orange County teams into the first round of the Southern Section girls’ soccer playoffs today.
Capistrano Valley (17-5-1) plays host to El Dorado (11-4-5) in the 4-A division at 3 p.m. Last season, Capistrano Valley was eliminated in the semifinals by West Torrance, 3-0. This season, the Cougars won the highly competitive South Coast League after a slow start in nonleague play.
Esperanza (22-0-3), the top-seeded 4-A team, received a first-round bye. The Aztecs will meet the winner of today’s Chaffey-University match in the second round Tuesday at a site to be determined.
Other top 4-A matches involving Orange County teams today include: Claremont (17-5-2) at No. 4 Mission Viejo (18-2-1); No. 9 Dana Hills (15-5-5) at West Torrance (15-4-2); El Toro (13-7-1) at No. 7 Upland and Corona del Mar (15-5-4) at Los Alamitos (15-6-2).
In the 2-A, No. 5 Valencia is the only county team ranked in the Southern Section top 10. The Tigers (14-6) will play host to Ganesha (13-5-3) at 3 p.m.
Other county teams playing in the 2-A today are Anaheim (9-6-2) at La Serna (15-3-1) and Brea-Olinda (7-9-2) at Corona (11-5-5).
Santa Margarita won a wild-card match Wednesday and will play Westridge on Friday.
