Hershiser Is Worth Every Penny to Dodgers
- Share via
There are always those in society who consider themselves fans but don’t understand what baseball really is. To clarify things for those who are critical of baseball players’ salaries, baseball is a “business.”
Yes, it’s an entertainment “business.” We all know that businesses invest in capital that yields a high return in terms of revenue. If the Dodgers’ profit margin is higher by paying Hershiser $2.425 million than by not having him at all, then why not give it to him?
He’s obviously “worth” it, isn’t he? The best doctor makes more than $2.425 million. The best lawyers, businessmen, and musicians make more than $2.425 million.
Why shouldn’t Hershiser? He was voted the best pitcher in the National League. His salary should not be based upon what you think he should receive based on other players’ salaries. His salary should be based upon what he is worth to the Dodgers.
