A Dinner to Remember
Thanks to Jerry Hulse, five of us went for a 30-year reunion during Easter week on Kauai, celebrating our founding of the League of Women Voters of El Cajon three decades ago. We followed Hulse’s tip on the Roxy Diner and had a fabulous breakfast. We talked to the cook, Dick Gregg, who turned out to be a former Seattle Sheraton chef trained in France. We asked him to prepare a special dinner for us and came back the next night for a meal never to be forgotten. It included salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing, shrimp in brandy and Pernod, vegetables in sherry and a local fresh fish, ahi . It was a marvelous experience. Dick’s friends gathered from nowhere to watch him cook. It was almost a reverent observation.
