Community College Roundup : Orange Coast Men, Women Swim to Conference Titles
The Orange Coast College men’s and women’s teams wrapped up Orange Empire Conference swimming titles Saturday, the final day of the three-day event at Saddleback.
Led by record-breaking performances by Dave Stone and Nate Kinney, the Orange Coast men topped runner-up San Diego Mesa, 660-512. Stone posted his third victory of the meet with a conference-record time of 1:56.32 in the 200 butterfly, and Kinney broke his own conference record of 46.92 in the 100 freestyle.
Saddleback’s Doug Bethke led his team to a third-place finish by winning the 200 backstroke.
In the women’s event, Marna Clark won the 100 backstroke and Karen Paulitschek took the 100 butterfly to help Orange Coast to a 640-451 advantage over second-place Palomar.
In the South Coast Conference swimming championships:
Golden West College swept the mens’ and womens’ championships at Cerritos, taking first place in six events. The men won the 400-meter free relay with a time of 3:09.19. The women won the 200-meter medley relay in 1:57.14.
In the Ojai tennis championships:
Saddleback College and Santa Barbara City College are tied for the lead with 16 points apiece. For Saddleback, Per Egrino gained the singles final and the team of Jamie Atcha and Gavin Fenske advanced to the doubles final.
