A state prison parolee wanted in a series of bank robberies was captured Tuesday in Torrance after allegedly holding up a Wells Fargo bank for nearly $4,000, police said.
Paul Mooneyham, 41, was arrested after he was stopped in a car that witnesses said was used as the bank robber’s getaway vehicle, Torrance Police Sgt. Jack McDonald said.
The robbery occurred at 10:30 a.m. when a man walked into a Wells Fargo Bank branch at 21300 Hawthorne Blvd. and presented a teller with a threatening note, McDonals said. The teller handed about $3,900 to the robber, who fled in a car parked outside, he said.
Witnesses relayed the license number to police, and a motorcycle officer stopped the car in the 17900 block of Hawthorne Boulevard. Inside, investigators found $3,900 in cash, a hold-up note and a pistol, McDonald said.
Mooneyham, on parole from state prison, is suspected of at least nine other bank robberies in Southern California, McDonald said.
