Jerry Parks, former Oklahoma cornerback on trial in Norman, Okla., for the shooting of teammate Zarak Peters, entered a plea of no contest, then quickly withdrew it.
Parks withdrew the plea when District Judge Preston Trimble said he would not go along with a recommendation from Peters that Parks serve a two-year deferred sentence and pay Peters’ medical bills as punishment for the shooting, which occurred Jan. 13 in the Oklahoma athletic dormitory.
Parks was charged with shooting with intent to injure after Peters was shot in the chest during an argument.
