CONSTRUCTION VALUATIONS
The value of non-residential building permits continues to lag behind last year’s pace. During the first two months of the year, the most recent period for which information is available, the value of all permits issued was $181,452,000, 15% below the comparable period of last year. This follows a January comparison that saw the value of county permits down just 3% from ’88. Permit valuations for hotels/motels, stores/mercantile buildings and office buildings all declined while industrial buildings and alterations/additions registered gains, following the trend seen in January. Here’s a comparison of Orange to the contiguous four counties in the value of total non-residential building as well as the five major subcategories:
